Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge described NDA candidate and present prime minister Narendra Modi as a “fake” and “a liar”. Speaking at a campaign rally in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh on 4th April, he was quoted as saying: “Modi is fake, a liar. Don’t fall into his trap. He is not worried about the nation’s interest. He is obsessed with power; he threatens opponents using ED-CBI and income tax and abuses the Congress. He talks against corruption and embraces all the tainted leaders from other parties. He doesn’t speak about Chinese intrusion…”
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh castigated Modi for touting free COVID-19 vaccinations as his big achievement, while the fact was that he was forced to provide free vaccines by the opposition and the Supreme Court. He added that people would never forget the extent of government’s mismanagement during the pandemic.
In a post on X, Ramesh said no amount of propaganda will erase the pain of lakhs of families across India, and gave a time line of actions from April which led to the announcement of free vaccines in June.
Separately, Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra criticised Modi for diverting people’s attention from real issues and burying the voice of millions beneath his propaganda. In a post in Hindi on X, she wrote: “The Prime Minister is worried about his imaginary problems inside his ivory tower. He shows such intolerance of political criticism. His intention is usually to divert attention from real issues, burying the voice of millions beneath the propaganda.”
“It is now for the citizens to think where will the country go if the person occupying the highest post will deploy all the resources at his command to suppress the Opposition parties raising genuine questions, instead of solving the real problems the nation is grappling with. This is the time for introspection and show awareness,” Priyanka wrote.
