Officials in Telangana government have begun the pre-Budget exercise of assessing revenue-generation potential and marking tentative allocations to different departments.
The deputy chief minister and finance minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka accompanied by agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao reviewed the situation in agriculture and allied sectors with senior officials on Tuesday.
The Ministers enquired about agri schemes that have been stopped, districts that need agri universities, functioning of seeds corporation, and developmental works in progress in the department. They asked officials to focus on the schemes involving matching grants from the Union, including the crop insurance scheme.
The agri sector is a priority for state government and the budget is likely to push further development of the sector. Productivity improvements in the farm sector would ensure more revenue to the exchequer and enhance the income of farmers.
Mr. Vikramarka also sought to know the details of the revenue-generating sectors and the expenditure that was being incurred on them annually.
